Family play time is set aside for mothers/fathers and sons/daughters to play with one another and other families (aunts/uncles, neices/nephews also qualify). This will be held at the NERRC on Saturdays between 9 AM and 1 PM. Regular adult and junior fees will apply to all participants.
Adults must be accompanied by their child to be eligible to play at this time.
Coaching
Group coaching - will take place during the Junior Club play time on Sundays 6 - 8 PM.
Individual coaching will be conducted during family play time on Saturdays 9 AM - 1 PM. These
sessions will be one-on-one or two-on-one sessions with a coach. Each
session will be for one hour. Contact us to arrange session times.
Our Coaches
Richard Shingles
Trained by Maurice Robinson, England's National Coach, Richard was an active junior and college player. He has, more recently, competed successfully at the senior level winning several gold medals in the Maryland Senior Olympics and a bronze medal at the National Senior Olympics. Richard has earned a Level 2 Coaching Certificate through USA Badminton, the NGO for the USOC. He coached the Garrison Forest varsity badminton team for 4 years, and has run two badminton clubs, coaching clinics, the Maryland Badminton Camp and several badminton tournaments over the last 8 years. He was the Regional Coaching Coordinator for 7 years for the Northeastern United States and has just finished a 5‐year appointment with USA Badminton and the USOC as a member of the Coaching Education Department.
Alec Wilson
Trained in Baltimore by one of the most famous families in badminton (the Devlins) Alec was a winner of the Maryland Junior Badminton Championships and he has also been a gold medal winner at the Maryland Senior Olympics. Alec is a USA Badminton certified Level 1 coach and was named the 2007 Volunteer Coach of the Year by USA Badminton for his successful efforts in developing the High School athletes in Baltimore County. Alec Wilson and Richard Shingles established the Loch Raven Junior Badminton Club in 2003.
Desmond Wong
A nationally ranked player, Desmond was named the 2007 Developmental Coach of the Year for badminton by the United States Olympic Committee (USOC). He has also been a University of Maryland Badminton coach, and is a USA Badminton certified Level 1 coach.
